Welcome to Puerto Escondido

An aerial view of the area would show the Sierra Madre mountains in the north and a jungle to the south, both coming right up to Oaxaca's Emerald Coast, Puerto Escondido. Puerto has two seasons, the summer/wet season, and the winter/dry season. With temperatures ranging from 75-95 in the summer and 65-85 in the winter, it's the perfect tropical climate.

Going to Puerto:

By plane :
Air travel is easily the most recommended form of transportation within Mexico. Before there was an airport, travelers would land their little Cessnas right on the sands of Zicatela beach. Now, there is an international airport in Puerto Escondido, as well as in Huatulco, 90 minutes south. Mexicana, Aero Carribe, and Aero Taxi all make daily flights from Mexico City and Oaxaca City. Charter flights are available from Acapulco and other Mexican resort cities. There are generally more flights into and out of Huatulco; a cab ride from Huatulco to Puerto is $50 USD if you bargain ahead. If you make a reservation, we will help you arrange transportation from the airport.

By Bus :
Busses are a cheap way to travel in Mexico. They generally run day and night. If you are able to sleep in fairly cramped surroundings, this is the way to go. Most cities in Mexico have a Primero Clase (First Class) bus station.

Driving :
Driving on your own can be more exciting than taking a bus. Make sure you buy a local map, and be aware that some listed paved roads are not there at all. Stick to main highways, take short cuts at your own peril, and enjoy the adventure.
